Early Release & 1/2 Day Information
Early Release Days 1:10 dismissal
- Wednesday, October 3, 2018 (Early Release Day #1)
- Wednesday, November 7, 2018 (Early Release Day #2)
- Friday, January 18, 2019 (Early Release Day #3)
- Wednesday, February 6, 2019 (Early Release Day #4)
- Wednesday, March 6, 2019 (Early Release Day #5)
- Thursday, April 18, 2019 (Early Release Day #6)
Early release days provide better opportunities for our teaching staff to assemble and improve their craft. On these days, school will dismiss a few hours early. On these early release days (just like we do for a "traditional" ½ day), school buses will transport students home at the conclusion of these days. Parents can also choose to come and pick up their child (children) at the conclusion of these days. Further, at the earlier grades (PK/Kindergarten-8th Grade) there will be a reduced price childcare option ($10 per session) for those parents who need / want this for their children on these early release days. Lunch will be served on all early release days in grades PK/K-8th grade.
½ Days – 12:10 dismissal
- November 28, 2018 (½ day for K-8th grade students)
- November 29, 2018 (½ day for ALL students)
- March 14, 2019 (½ day for ALL students)
- March 15, 2019 (1/2 day for ALL students)
- June 14, 2019 (½ day for ALL students)
On "traditional" ½ days, the reduced price childcare option is not offered. However, childcare is still available at the regular price. Further, we do not serve lunch on "traditional" ½ days.

I hope that everyone is as excited to start the 2018-19 school year as I am! As we “swarm together” at Heritage this year, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new students, families, and staff.
This is my 16th year with the Saline Area Schools. In that time, I have held the titles of Spanish Teacher, Saline Middle School Assistant Principal, English Language Learner Coordinator, and now, this is my third year as the Proud Principal of Heritage School. I have been married to my wonderful husband for the past 17 years, and we have a daughter who is in fourth grade! Thank you all for sharing your children with us! We are looking forward to an extraordinary year!

As a 2003 graduate of Saline Area Schools, it is an honor to serve as assistant principal at Heritage! The 2018-19 school year marks my fourth year as assistant principal of Heritage School and tenth year overall in education. Prior to working at Saline Area Schools, I had professional experiences at Cesar Chavez Academy in Detroit, Monroe High School and as a graduate assistant at Eastern Michigan University.
Saline is such a vibrant community, one that I am proud to call home. I look forward to reconnecting with the class of 2026 families and getting to know the class of 2027 families. In order for us at Heritage to provide the highest quality education for all students, it’s vital that families are part of the education process.
Between Project Based Learning (PBL), Project Lead the Way (PLTW), our specials classes and Community Meetings, we have so much to be excited about at Heritage. It’s going to be a great school year!
I can’t wait for the school year to start and the opportunity to meet your child! If ever you have a question, please send me an email at schukowa@salineschools.org or call me at 734-401-4158.
